Case Study 4

Fitbit Product Finder

I created an interactive product finder for Fitbit’s website, to help customers quickly and easily find the product that would fit their specific needs.

Problem and Opportunity

Fitbit, the renowned activity tracker and wearable tech company, had 10 different products and many more accessories to choose from. This meant that shoppers could find it challenging to identify the right product. We wanted to ensure that customers could quickly and easily find the right product for their particular needs.

Users

Fitbit users are a broad audience with diverse motivations for using its products. They range from serious athletes to fitness enthusiasts, to those seeking to monitor and improve their overall health and well-being. This includes individuals of various ages, fitness levels and varying priorities in tracking activity, sleep, and other health metrics.

Role and Process

As the designer for the shopping section of the Fitbit site, I collaborated with team members to understand the project requirements, then created wireframes for presentation and feedback. I then created the visual designs and interactive prototypes, which included creating an animated header at the start of the quiz, and custom icons. And finally, I prepped all files and assets for final handoff to development.

Solution

We created an interactive experience that generates product recommendations based on users’ preferences, fitness goals, and lifestyle. After a short quiz, users are presented with key product recommendations as well as a comparison chart of products with similar features. Whether they decided to purchase a recommended product or otherwise, customers were able to make their selection and easily enter the checkout flow from the results page.

Process

Collaborated with our team to understand the goal for the project and to ensure that I was creating the best solution for customers’ needs.

Created custom icons for this interactive experience.

Created high fidelity designs utilizing the company’s existing style guide.

After presenting designs and making updates, finalized files, and conducted hand-off meeting.

Outcome

Users and reviewers considered this feature helpful and easy to navigate. They found the questions and answers simple and easy to navigate, the multiple choices covered all the bases, and the layout of each question page was easy to read and interact with. The personalized results page, which gave 2-3 product recommendations, also allowed customers to easily browse and compare other products within the results page. Overall, this feature was found to be genuinely useful, and that it streamlined the shopping experience.

Following Google’s acquisition of Fitbit, this product recommendation quiz is unfortunately no longer live. But an archived page with the animated hero section, can be viewed here.
